Maureen Leyland M.S.W., R.S.W., M.A.
(Distributed Learning/e-learning) |
 |
Maureen has over 25 years experience in the social work
and counselling fields, having specialized as a family
therapist (University of Calgary Medical School Family
Therapy Program; Institute of Family Therapy, London,
England; and Yaletown Family Therapy, Vancouver). She
spent 12 years in the Social Work Dept. of BC Children’s
Hospital with children, and their families, who are living
with chronic illnesses. Realizing the power of the Internet
for both counselling and continuing education, Maureen
completed a Masters degree in Distributed Learning through
Royal Roads University, Victoria. |
She is now Associate Faculty in the Distributed Learning
Program where she teaches two courses; one on online
facilitation and community-building skills, the other an
orientation to the program for new learners. She is also on
the Education Committee of the Canadian Society for
Telehealth. |
Maureen’s main interest is how using the “Web” can
widen access to the therapeutic services of social workers and
counsellors – in essence over-riding geographic and time limitations of
the past. She believes it is essential that social workers and
counsellors learn to work ethically in this new medium.
